Sno-Isle Libraries Help You Get There

The world is a big place and we maneuver it in many ways. We are travelers and armchair travelers. We are students and lifelong learners. We are curious about what happened before, what is happening now, and what might happen in the future.

Maps are essential tools for understanding how the world worked and how it works today. Perhaps you need to get from home to an appointment across town. A vacation may take you to a different state, or outside of the country. You may be reading a book that talks about historic trade routes or see an article that mentions a location you have not even heard of.

Sno-Isle Libraries provides links to a variety of recommended websites for maps. You can see them here: http://www.sno-isle.org/?ID=1246&cid=988

These are excellent resources for maps of cities, towns, states and countries, both current and historical. There are maps of military battlefields and campaigns. Interactive maps, vital statistic maps, topographic maps. For current events, try the ‘Places in the News’ maps found in the U.S. Library of Congress Map Collection. Based on recent news, the first two maps you find when you click on this link are Norway and Sudan.

Maps provide us with a visual perspective that the written word alone cannot provide. Our understanding of an event or a place becomes clearer when we can see it.

The public library has long been a place dedicated to helping people find the information they need for whatever reason they need it. The recommended map websites continue that dedication, in a very accessible way.

You don’t have to leave home to see these maps via the Sno-Isle Libraries website. But we hope you will come visit us anyway, and discover all the wonderful resources provided to you by your library.

The map of all our library locations is here: http://www.sno-isle.org/!
