Do It Yourself (with a little help from the library)

I am always amazed by the crafts, projects, and hobbies our customers are working on. Here's a sampling of things people have asked about recently: deck building, birdhouses, gourd crafts, knitting, wire jewelry, and Mexican pastry making.

Sno-Isle Libraries has a huge number of books to assist with these projects, but there are also a variety of online resources available to use 24/7 in the comfort of your home or office. All you need is a library card number! Take a look: http://www.sno-isle.org/?ID=1246&cid=951.

Two of my favorites are -

Hobbies and Crafts Reference Center: Trying to make a last minute Halloween costume? Look no further! This database has full text articles from more than 740 magazines and books, and access to over 720 videos. It offers detailed "how-to" instructions and creative ideas to match the interests of almost every hobby-enthusiast.

Home Improvement Reference Center: As an owner of a "fixer upper," this database definitely comes in handy. Repair information is available for thousands of projects, including electrical, outdoor, plumbing, woodworking, maintenance, and remodeling. Currently being featured are articles about weatherizing your home and a video demo of how to clean gutters.

As always, if you have questions about these or other online databases, just ask.

Out of curiosity, what project have you been working on recently?

We recently purchased a 1961 Airstream. Though we haven't started tearing into it yet, we have already checked out DIY and travel trailer books from the library for ideas!

Susan, That's great! I'm glad the library can help.

Thanks for posting this! Been looking for some good Christmas stocking designs. The Hobbies and Craft Reference Center was super helpful.
